Volunteer Eligibility Requirements
Potential volunteers are carefully screened to ensure they meet the eligibility requirements:
CASA Youth Mentors Must:
-
Be at least 25 years of age*
-
Reside in the service area
-
Relate to and respect people from various backgrounds (economic, cultural, and educational)
-
Have basic computer literacy (word processing, internet search and email abilities)
-
Have mature judgment, self-motivation, and time management skills
-
Able to support youth safety and well-being including being positive adult role models who:
-
Hold clean criminal histories including having never been accused, arrested, charged, or convicted of child abuse or molestation or convicted of a felony
-
Abstain from illicit drug use
-
Abstain from excessive or inappropriate alcohol or controlled substances use
-
Are not currently in treatment for substance misuse
-
Are not currently in treatment or have been hospitalized for mental health reasons in the past three years
-

Willing to abide by program policies and procedures including:
-
Complete the screening procedure which includes signing a release of information for criminal, National Sex Offender Registry and Central Registry (CPS) checks, and providing verification of social security number and fingerprints for the National FBI criminal search
-
Commit to a minimum of one year of service (longer commitment preferred) interacting face-to-face at least four hours/month an average of four times/month with mentees
-
Support youth-directed educational, career, housing, and personal goal setting and achievement
-
Submit complete Monthly Activity Reports by established deadlines
-
Act as mandatory reporters of suspected neglect (training provided)

Maintain confidential information
-

Have access to an automobile and hold a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and a clean driving record
-
Transport mentees as needed if explicitly authorized to do so
Applicants who meet the requirements complete pre-service training before being matched with their mentees.
*Individuals who are 22 and have completed their undergraduate degree may be accepted on a case-by-case basis.

CASA Associates must:

Be able to navigate through social media sites

Have the ability to transfer data accurately

Be flexible with volunteer schedule and related responsibilities

Communicate effectively orally and in writing

CASA Advocates must:

Be at least 25 years old

Communicate effectively orally and in writing

Be able to relate to and respect people from various backgrounds (economic, cultural and educational)

Commit to at least 46 hours of pre-service training
-
Have basic computer literacy: (word processing, internet search and email abilities)
-
Be able to gather and record factual information
-
Have mature judgment, self-motivation, and time management skills
-
Maintain confidential Information
-
Have own transportation
