Who We Serve

In 2008 Colonial CASA advocated for 116 children. The following charts provide information on the demographic makeup of those 116 children. The last section explains what happens to the children when the cases are completed.

Age

Typically, abused children are under the age of eleven. Evidence supports that children eleven and under cannot protect themselves as well as an older child. In 2008, 67% of the abused children served by Colonial CASA were under 11 years of age or younger with 39% of those children being 4 years old or younger.

Statistical Tidbits

  • 30% of the children served spent time in placements outside of the home.
  • Colonial CASA successfully advocated for 56 safe permanent placements in 2008.  Of those, 43% (25) were safely returned to their parents.
  • Colonial CASA permanent placement recommendations were accepted by the judge 96.6% of the time during 2008.

National Statistics

We hope you agree that one abused and neglected child is one too many.  Unfortunately, child abuse and neglect still exists in our country today.  When National CASA Association released the 2006 National Statistics, they cited that 906,000 children were found to be victims of abuse and neglect in 2003.  Equally disturbing is that 1,500 children died from abuse or neglect annually.  CASA advocates dedicate their lives to changing these statistics and giving these children a voice, a chance, a future.  To view the full statistical report, click here.
