Who We Serve
|
Last year (2004) Colonial CASA advocated for 163 children.
The following charts provide information on the demographic
makeup of those 153 children. The last section explains what
happens to the children when the cases are completed. |
Ethnicity |
|
Gender
The children
were basically evenly split regarding gender. |
|
Age
Typically, abused children are under the age of eleven. Evidence
supports that children eleven and under cannot protect themselves
as well as an older child. Last year, 60% of the abused children
served by Colonial CASA were under 11 years of age or younger
with 32% of those children being 5 years old or younger. |
|
Statistical Tidbits
- 68% of the children served spent time in placements outside
of the home
- Colonial CASA successfully advocated for 65 safe permanent
placements during 2003. Of those, 45% (29) were safely
returned to their parents.
- Colonial CASA permanent placement recommendations were
accepted by the judge 92% of the time during 2003.

National Statistics
I hope you agree that one abused and neglected child is one too many. Unfortunately, child abuse and neglect still exists in our country today. The National CASA Association recently released the 2006 National Statistics citing 906,000 children were found to be victims of abuse and neglect in 2003. Equally disturbing is that 1,500 children died from abuse or neglect during 2003. CASA advocates dedicate their lives to changing these statistics and giving these children a chance, a future.
